This has been a very interesting course and I would highly recommend for Teachers and SENCOs as well as for TAs.

This was an amazing course, it is a shame that every adult working in education does not study it. My tutor, Gill Clarke, was incredible. She explains everything so well and was so knowledgeable and supportive.

I found the Elklan course really useful and from the training I am going on to the role of speech and language support for the whole school. Due to covid all the training was online, but I found the webinar meetings that were held every week really helpful. It was nice to talk to other practitioners and hear about their experiences. I would definitely recommend this course to everyone.

Having only recently begun my career in early years education, I have found the information and strategies taught by Elklan invaluable. The course, and materials are well thought through and provide the practitioner with tried and tested strategies that undoubtedly help identify and support children who benefit from interventions. The course has helped to develop me as an effective TA, and am confident in the continued support from Elklan and its tutors.

As the SENCo at a large primary school I work with many speech and language therapists, as well as the staff who deliver the programmes they write. The 5-11s course has provided me with a thorough and comprehensive overview of speech and language needs and strategies.

I found the course structure logical and accessible. I also liked the fact that many of the strategies discussed could be used as whole class or group teaching approaches, not just as 1:1 intervention – particularly the strategies around vocabulary and expressive language development.

The Language Builders manual is a great resource, providing clear information and worked examples. An excellent professional development opportunity.

My first e-course and I think the interactive slides etc are brilliant. My learners are all very enthusiastic so I think it will be a positive experience for us all.

Before I took this Elklan course, I thought I understood a decent amount of knowledge about speech. I was wrong! Now I have had a lot more understanding of some of the struggles the children I work with face everyday.

I returned to work after my morning session on the course and listened to the children in my class. Most can complete tasks without assistance, but some have needed lots of help. I have adapted the way I talk to the children, using shorter and clearer sentences to avoid confusion on their behalf.

I have used old methods of helping children such as timelines with much more success this time. Mind Maps and Word Snapshot were a favourite to use and I enjoyed it as much as they did!

I hope to use this new knowledge to help me be a better teaching assistant and to help others understand just how difficult ‘talking’ can be.

The course was probably one of the best decisions I've made in my 6 years as a Learning Support Assistant and I am hoping to do another Elklan course over the next academic year.

I have a son with speech problems so I thought I knew a fair bit about speech and language but this course has shown me how little I actually knew! After completing the course I am now able to look at both my own child and the children I work with from a completely different point of view. I know that what I've learnt on the course will change the way I do my job in the future.

The ability to stretch the course out over 10 weeks was really beneficial as it allowed me time to study each subject and to try and put into practice the skills I was developing. The online e-learning element was crucial to my learning process as it allowed me to choose when I studied throughout the week and to replay elements that I was unsure of. My tutor was always available if I had any questions and was very quick to respond (even over weekends and bank holidays!). Although it was sometimes hard work to balance studying with work and home life, it was well worth the effort and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the course to my colleagues - in fact, I already have!

I would just like to say what a comprehensive course this has been - when you think of e-learning it can be a little daunting but each session has been presented in a way which is easy to access and very thorough. The joy of 'looking' at each session was the fact that you could stop at any time, restart and review anything, it was easy to follow. The Wednesday evening webinar sessions with Jo were also very well presented. She is a very good tutor and made all of us feel very comfortable. It was good talking to the others about their practises and settings in relation to what the topic was each week. The portfolio was also easy to follow and very well thought through and Jo was very quick at getting back to me if I had any queries.

Once again well done for such an excellent course, I will definitely recommend it to others and will look at further courses in the future.
