Signalong is a sign supported communication system for children and adults with additional needs, supporting the development of speaking and understanding.
Signalong and Makaton are both based on British Sign Language (BSL) but are simplified versions with the words and signs used together in spoken word order.
There are many similarities between Makaton and Signalong but one difference is the way that they are taught with the Signalong Foundation Course giving attendees access to using all the 15,000 signs in existence. Applicants should check with their setting / local authority as to which signing system is the agreed option for them.
This accredited course will equip learners with the skills they need to use Signalong as a way of supporting communication skills for children and adults. It is designed for beginners and experienced signers, parents, early years practitioners, teachers, teaching assistants and anyone working with and/or supporting children and young people.
The course includes:
Training from a licensed Signalong tutor
A Signalong Foundation manual including diagrams of all the signs taught
An official certificate on completion
Access to free weekly signs from the Signalong website
